A few weeks back I took some shots of Garrett's Barbershop based in Berlin, CT. As soon as I walked in the first thing I noticed was the electric yellow paint and matching plush loveseat [which I LOVE!] followed up by Garrett's infectious smile. The shop is colorful & trendy, littered with vintage barber memorabilia, posters and baseball paraphenelia. Did I mention the portrait of Mr. T? :) I really enjoyed watching him & co-worker Danielle cut hair as I shot images of their work. They both are so nice & easy-going, its always such a pleasure to meet & collaborate with other young professionals. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a new barber either for yourself or your kids, they are the ones to contact. Enjoy the pictures!

Last week I took some images of a very loving couple, Mike & Darleen. They had a intimate backyard wedding with their closest friends and family in Willington, CT. Their JP was also the person who introduced them, so their union was extra special to her as well :) Mike & Darleen's adoration for each other was palpable as we watched them take vows surrounded by those they love most. Photographing them was such a joy; their friends & family were all so wonderful, I felt right at home with them. Congrats to you both and I wish you all the best as you start your new life together. Vincent & Becky's Engagement Session

For Becky & Vincent's engagement session, we stopped at Hollandia Nursery & Gardens in Bethel for a few shots and then snuck to a sweet little spot hidden away for the rest. It was a hot, muggy day but there was nothing but smiles & laughter coming from these two. This was my first time meeting them and I felt right at home. Last week I took some senior portraits of my super silly & sweet cousin Lauren. We went gallavanting around Hebron & Bolton, trespassed on private property [twice], and traipsed around on sloping fields next to the busy roads. Yeah, it was great :) Lauren was hysterical as usual, she always had me laughing. I was so happy to spend time with her and capture these images for such an important time in her life. Definitely a day I will never forget. Thanks so much Lauren for asking me to take these pictures for you. You are an amazing person and I love you to pieces! Troy & Holly's Sweet Summer Wedding

Troy & Holly [a.k.a Trolly] are old high school friends of mine back from Bristol Eastern [class of '99]. When they contacted me about photographing their wedding I was surprised & thrilled at the news of their engagement. They had a small intimate wedding with their closest friends & family at The Mill On The River in South Windsor. I am so very lucky to have been able to capture their special day with my camera. I witnessed their nervousness, their joy & their silliness, but most importantly their love for one another :) It was a sweet & beautiful wedding and wish both Troy & Holly all the happiness in the world. Congrats on your new life together!

Unionville Carnival

This past weekend was the Unionville Carnival hosted by our town's fire department, Tunxis Hose Company #1. I've been attending this carnival for the past 6 years since I moved here, but had an extra amazing time with my kids this time around :) I met one of my facebook fans there [shout out to Theresa!] and my kids had such a blast on the rides, stuffing themselves with fried dough & soda, and watching a fantastic fireworks show. If you've never been to it before, come on by next year!

Recently I was contacted by Heather, who used the services of NILMDTS [Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep] about 7 or 8 months ago when her son Braeden was born. Many of you know I am the current Hartford County coordinator for this amazing organization. You can imagine how excited I was to find out that their son was still with us! They asked me to take some updated portraits of their family and I was thrilled to do so. I adored watching them interact with Braeden. Their love was palpable, the gentle & tender care they gave him was so heartwarming. I was so blessed to be a part of their lives that day :) Here are a few images of our session together!

Will & Amanda were just so stinkin' cute during their engagement session with me in Collinsville. It was raining the whole time but it didn't get their spirits down! They made it work, and we incorporated the wet weather for some super cute photos. The lead singer Sebastian Scott is an old high school classmate of mine that I reconnected with on Facebook. A few days ago they competed in the final round of 106.9 WCCC's Rock (Your) Face Off at Up Or On The Rocks in Hartford and WON! I just wanted to congratulate Sebastian, Aaron Read, Dan Cusson & Rick Finocchiaro on their success and wish them all the best as they open for a national touring act at the Block Party in Downtown Hartford on May 21st! As soon as I saw Jonathan & Lisa I knew I had to meet them! They are such an amazing couple - cool & modern and really just visually striking. Lisa's big eyes and Jonathan's cool hair, who could ask for more? :) Last Saturday I went to their home, met their 4 absolutely adorable children, and then we headed out to Elizabeth Park in West Hartford. This place has such a special meaning for them, its where they got married 7 years ago so it was our first stop for our photo session. Afterwards we drove around Hartford [thanks for being the chaffeur Jon!] and landed in the St. Francis parking garage for a few more shots at the end. Even though it was absolutely FREEZING the whole time they were such troopers and so much fun to be with. Jonathan & Lisa, thank you so much for allowing me to take your pictures & for telling me about Wellspring. I know I've said it a million times and I'm bound to say it a million times more, but you two are so cute together it kills me! David: a winter photo session in Meriden

I met David through my mother. Sounds bizarre I know but its the truth. They work together at the same company and so thats how I first came in contact with him. I've probably been trying to take his images for a year, and finally this past Saturday I was victorious! [woot woot!] Wouldn't you know a bunch of the married women at his job were begging me to take pics of him in a wifebeater, haha. Oh ladies, take a number.. thats for NEXT time :) But seriously, David & I hit it off right away. It felt like I've known him for years and I simply love when that happens. He's such a nice guy, so funny, and definitely a keeper. David, I had a great time and hope you enjoy some of the pics from our session together. Thanks for indulging me my friend! A few months back Robb Park of Pheonix Ink in Plantsville, CT gave me my very first tattoo. Now a lot of people start off with small tats, but no not Melissa. When I go for something I go all the way! :) In ode to my first tattoo, I wrote a little poem. Here is a pic I took in the mirror of just the outline before he finished it with color. And here is one my husband took with his phone of Robb putting finishing touches on my tattoo. I know its a little pixelated, but it came out beautiful! I highly recommend Robb if you are interested in getting inked.

Christmas in Collinsville: Mike & Jessica's Engagement Session

Jessica & Mike were so much fun during their engagement session. They were laughing the whole time, telling jokes and just really enjoying one another. You know when two people seem to fit together perfectly - when they just make sense? That is definitely them :) They chose to have their pics taken in the quaint little town of Collinsville. We visited the rundown mill along the river, and visited some cute stores lined down the road. Many people may not know that I have a 16 year old brother and an 12 year old sister. I am 28 afterall, and my older sister is almost 32. But yes, these wonderful specimens are my siblings and we all have the same set of parents. My mother says in retrospect "What the heck was I thinking?" :) Haha. There was plenty of "Your Mom" jokes being thrown around last night and we made fun of my little sister's blossoming bosoms. Its all fair game with my family! We're very close and they are alot of fun, so of course we had a great time taking these pictures. Can we say GAP commercial? Holy smokes my parents make good lookin' babies! :o)

Two weeks ago I assisted Danielle of Beyond the Lens with the wedding of Sidney & Valeria. As soon as I met them, I liked them immediately! They were so sweet and so much fun, it was never a dull moment at their wedding. Even the story of how they met is amazing.. they were both vacationing in Brazil and met under the Christ the Redeemer Statue in Rio de Janeiro. Sid wasn't even supposed to be there that week, but with a twist of fate they met and fell in love. Liz & Riley - Pinups For Pitbulls

I had the great oppertunity to do a photo session with Liz, a pitbull lover :) She entered Pinups For Pitbulls which is a pitbull awareness & adoption non-profit. Every year they make a calendar that benefits organizations dedicated to the education and promotion of pitbull and bully breeds. The image they wanted us to recreate was kinda tricky, and unfortunately wasn't chosen to be in the calendar but we still had a wonderful time together! Here are 2 pictures of Liz & her dog Riley, after the session. She wanted a few shots of her and Riley & the tattoo she has of him on her leg. A few weeks back I was interviewed by town editor Stephanie Riefe about NILMDTS. She also interviewed a lovely couple, the Bonito's, who had me come and photograph their sweet daughter Maggie. For those of you who never heard about Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, it is a non-profit organization that offers infant bereavement photography, free of charge, to families who have lost babies during pregnancy or shortly after. The article can be found in this month's Canton LIFE and will be published in November's Farmington's LIFE, so keep your eyes open for it! :)

This beautiful lady happens to be one of my favorite cousins ever :) She and Chris just got engaged a few weeks ago and our family is sooo happy and excited for them both! I took them to Hubbard Park in Meriden for the first part of our engagement session. There are just so many scenic spots in that park, that I couldn't resist! Afterwards we ventured out to some cornfields near my town and got some more of these awesome images. The chemistry between these two is unreal! I didn't even have to tell them what to do, they were just so in tune with one another. I absolutely loved spending time with them and can't wait to do their wedding next year! This past Saturday I photographed a wedding for some friends of mine & my husband. The plans were to have the ceremony outdoors but wouldn't you know it, a storm rolled in the night before and rained all day.. so we had a wet, but lovely, wedding indoors instead! :) They were surrounded by close friends and relatives who shared in the joy of their union as spouses. Scarlet Fade: a band with passion and potential

Today I photographed a local band, Scarlet Fade, at the Thomaston Railroad Station. The band is made up of 4 siblings - Ali, Jordan, Jaimee & Jake. They've shared the stage with bands like Switchfoot, Lifehouse, Copeland and many others. I was delighted when they asked me to take some updated photos for them. We had a really excellent time; they were a lot of fun & willing to do anything for the right shot :) Here are a few pics from today. Thanks you guys for being so great!

Little Emmanuella: God's gift from Nigeria!

I had the joy of photographing a wonderful and loving family this past weekend at their home. Victor & his wife Omo are from Nigeria. Talk about inspiring - they came to the U.S. 3 years ago with nothing, and now have a brand new house & a bouncing baby girl! After battling infertility for several years, they found out they were expecting a child, and so this miracle baby is named Emmanuella meaning "God is with us." Indeed He is! :) Here are a few photos from our session together.

Bethany and I met when we were pre-teens at church. I was the shy, introverted one & she was the out-going and bubbly one :) We became fast friends and had so many great times together... so many wonderful memories. Unfortunately we lost contact over the years but have now re-connected through the magical world of Facebook. Currently she lives with her husband Michael, and their baby girl Abigail in Jerusalem, Israel! They are a world away from us, but so close in heart. Michael & Beth took a road trip across the USA to visit friends and family. I was so blessed that I was able to see her during her brief stay in Connecticut. We had an amazing time catching up on everything. It felt just like old times - like we've seen one another everyday, instead of the first time in over ten years! Before she left, I set up a makeshift studio [in my kitchen of all places] and took some pics of Beth & her little girl Abigail ♥ Here are a few of my faves. I've been busy for the past 2 days emailing & scouring Myspace looking for fresh songs to put on my website. Over the next few weeks I'm going to be updating my site with tunes from unsigned, indie, or new bands and musicians. Ideally, I'd like my site to be filled with just music from these [mostly local] up & coming musicians, to showcase their talent & give them support. I met Diane & Rick through my husband's cousin's girlfriend [yeah thats a mouthful!] and I am so glad I did. You know when you meet someone for the first time and you just click? Our day with Thomas the Tank Engine

Our friends Heather & Donell, whose wedding I will be photographing this upcoming October, gave my family & I some tickets to see Thomas the Tank Engine @ the Railroad Museum of New England in Thomaston, CT. Needless to say my 3 children were very excited! Here are a few pictures from that hot and sticky [but awesome] day:

The humidity was killer. A thick fog hung over us all day, and then lots of rainshowers! Thomas! Woot woot! My son. He's a cutie, isn't he? She's happy now! Some magician guy showed my children tricks. They thought he was amazing :) They loved this one, making the balls muliply. My son was fascinated with the magic tricks. Thomas the Tank Engine tattoos! For both my girls. Walking to get on board Thomas. A picture with the train conductor. Thumbs up for a great day!

If you are ever able to make it to A Day Out With Thomas, I recommend it. Its not every day you get to ride a character from tv :) The kids will enjoy every minute of this memorable occasion! All aboard!

I had the wonderful oppertunity to second shoot a wedding with my sweet and dear friend Nicole Taylor of Nicole Taylor Photography. This beautiful wedding took place in a gorgeous garden & gazebo in Massachusetts. Nicole & I had so much fun doing this wedding together! The bride & groom, Betsy & Michael, were such a loving & amazing couple. I enjoyed photographing their love for one another, and their family, so very much. Here are a few pics from Sunday:

Ben & Kristie

My brother-in-law Ben met Kristie at Tunxis Community College this past Spring. I remember how nervous and excited he was when he told me he was planning on asking her out. As you can see, they hit it off and are the sweetest little couple ever. Ben asked me if I could take some simple pictures of him & Kristie. I of course said yes! Here are a few pictures from our mini-session at Hillstead Museum in Farmington. Aren't the cutest? :)

David & Tiffany's Engagement Session

Meet David and Tiffany! This couple was so much fun during their engagement session. They are super-cute (as you can see from the pictures below) and I just couldn't get enough of them! Even though their wedding isn't until next year, they wanted to take some pictures at my secret graffitti spot ;) We parked on the side of the road by the woods and followed a hidden, narrow path onto some train tracks. We then trekked through the forest until we got to our destination. It was worth it! Take a peek at some of the images:

After we were done taking pictures here, we decided to stop by Rockwell Park a few streets away. I found myself saying "awww!" a lot because they are just so in love ♥ It was sweet watching them tease each other. I can't wait to photograph their wedding on 10/10/10! Beaudoin Legacy

Last year on March 29th, 2008 I had the amazing oppertunity to photograph The Beaudoin Legacy's last concert with the widow Julie Beaudoin just before she passed away. It was recorded live at the Blackstone River Theatre in Cumberland, RI and the cd is now available for purchase. Go to www.beaudoinlegacy.com for more information.
